Bekti sings for Euro 2008 album

    Features News - Wednesday, June 18, 2008

JAKARTA: TV presenter Indra Bekti, formerly a member of the now-defunct boy band FBI, has been chosen by recording company Sonny-BMG to sing the song "Goal" for its compilation album dedicated to Euro 2008.

"I have to be honest with you, this is a dream come true for me," Bekti, who hosts the famous talkshow Ceriwis with Indy Barend on Trans TV, said as quoted by Antara.

He said the opportunity given to him by the recording company was a "blessing", which could pave the way for him to make a comeback to the music industry.

He said he had been disappointed by FBI, the vocal group he and two fellow models set up, adding he was the only one who had seriously promoted the group until it disbanded in 2003.

The Euro 2008 album would also feature local hip hop band St. Loco and a number of international artists, including Trix & Flix feat. Shaggy ("Like A Superstar"), Donna Summer ("Stamp Your Feet"), Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean ("Hips Don't Lie"), Gloria Estefan ("Rhythm Is Gonna Get You"), Ricky Martin ("The Cup Of Life/La Copa De La Vida"), Britney Spears ("Outrageous") and Il Divo with Tony Braxton ("Time Of Our Lives"). -- JP

A MAGICO ASSEMBLE OF ONE OF THE BEST AND HIGHLY INSPIRATIONAL GROUPS NOT ONLY IN THIS UNIVERSO BUT ALSO PAST THE GALAXIA YET NOT MANY OF OUR GENERACIONES WOULD REALLY EVEN TAKE A LISTEN TO WHAT WOULD SURPASS PAST GENERACIONES ESTANDAR DE MUSICA

This is the cover of il divo's first album-IL DIVO

i dun think that many of the ppl from our generation would really appreciate this kind of musique genre, especially in terms of the singers singing in foreign langue-which is what actually makes them so bueno. The singers are of different heritages and backgrounds, yet despite them being(left to right)-swiss(urs buhler),american(david miller),french(sebastien izambard) and spanish(carlos marin), their voces assembled together is more powerful than a flock of nightingales pouring their hearts out. They do songs in many genres that include español,francés, italiano and inglés.one day they might even sing in chino=).so hurry, get their albums and be bolted right into the realisation that il divo would clamber over groups like click 5,eminem,etc.personally, my favorito is the american tenor david miller, whose voz just keeps you right on the edge of your seat. His remarkably high range of tone compliments spanish baritone(in between bass and tenor)carlos marin perfectly.Boy, go i hope il divo would come to singapore to promote the album which they are currently in the process of recording.¡la primera fila etiqueta por favor!

I'm proud to be Irish but Dublin's full of phoneys

I'm proud to be Irish but Dublin's full of phoneys

I'M proud to be Irish, but Dublin is just full of phoneys these days. It struck me this week how there's more wannabes in Ireland than anywhere else in the world.

For a small town, there's just so many of them. I've never encountered so many wannabe models, popstars, TV presenters, actresses, WAG's, it's just gone crazy and none of them have the talent to back it up.

Everybody annoys me - they're all going around wearing dark sunglasses and thinking they're A-listers or something. And then we're having all these TV and style award ceremonies, which are a total joke.

There's no style in Ireland. The best thing about Irish people is that they're Irish and here they're going around trying to copy Americans. It drives me crazy

All the newspapers this past week have been going on about Sharon Osbourne leaving X Factor.

We started filming the show yesterday and I have to say, I'm going to miss her so much. I talk to her daily, we're best friends and the best thing was, she took absolutely no c**p from Simon Cowell. He couldn't handle her because she's very strong and independent - you never knew what she would say or do.

We weren't always friends for the first year or two, we were at each other's throats. The time she flung the glass of water over me on-air, that wasn't staged. She really meant to do it. Now I love her to bits and Kelly and Ozzy are such a laugh.

I think Cheryl Cole's going to be brilliant on the show. After all, she came from a show like this as she started off in 'Popstars: The Rivals'. Cheryl's very feisty but I think she will be sympathetic to the people coming in and auditioning for us because she knows exactly how they feel. Plus, she has the whole drama with Ashley going on in her private life so people will be tuning in just to see if he pops up in the audience or something.

I love the weekends in Dublin and my favourite place to go out right now is Krystle. It has the best-looking girls in the country hanging out there and Brian and Conor always look after me.

I brought Il Divo down there after the Celine Dion concert and their tongues were hanging out all night, they couldn't believe how many gorgeous girls there were.

I watched the Miss Universe Ireland contest last Sunday night. TV3 put on a brilliant production but there were just so many clones on the stage. All the girls looked like Barbie dolls. I'm one of the judges in the Miss Ireland competition as I'm good friends with Krish Naidoo.

I was one of the judges in the Miss World before and it was great craic.

Mondays, I usually spend catching up on my TV programmes. I watch a lot of the American shows like Riches and Dirt. I've just started watching 'Damages' starring Glenn Close and it's just fantastic.

I'm a bit of an insomniac, I don't do early mornings so I stay up late a lot watching CNN and Sky News, I'm addicted to it.

On Tuesday, I went down to my favourite place to hang out, Espresso Bar on St Mary's Road and I caught up on my calls, went through the papers and met a few people for lunch. I bumped into Dustin and his manager Darren Smith and they were telling me all the gossip from Eurovision.

Dustin's not hanging his head at all after his defeat, he said it was the best week ever. Yet I think he should move to London and forget about Dublin. He would get a lot more work because he's an unknown, he's absolutely wasted here.

On Wednesday, I had to do loads of interviews because we're starting X Factor again. I had to get up at 7am to do a phoner with GMTV, as well as Fern (Britton) and Phil (Schofield) and then in the afternoon I met Lorraine Keane for an interview on Xpose. Westlife flew over to Italy as well to perform at Wayne Rooney's wedding and they were looking forward to that.

Yesterday, I flew over to London to start auditioning and I'm filming here for the next three days. They're putting me up in the Hempel Hotel, which is owned by this Irish guy, Michael McBride, and I love it.

It meant I missed the launch party for the new club, Residence, but it couldn't be helped. Simon Stokes gave me a membership card and I think it's a great idea, Dublin is crying out for somewhere like this.

I'm going to spend this evening and the rest of the weekend filming at Wembley for X Factor. I think it's going to be the best series yet, we had 17,000 people in one of the places queuing up to audition, it was madness.

It's probably because of how well Leona and Shayne Ward are doing. It's c**p to say the public are fed up with reality talent shows, the viewing figures are still massive. And unlike some other contests, our show actually produces real stars - and that's what it's all about.

    CONCERT IN MELBOURNE

On April 2, 2008 Celne Dion performed in Melbourne, Australia. This concert also was part of "Taking Chances World Tour". Celine Dion fans had waited 10 years for the superstar to return to Australian stages. So, an extra 24-hour wait after Dion postponed her Rod Laver Arena show with serious voice issues was a minor inconvenience. Dion hit the stage that night minus the surgical mask that's been her constant companion in her quest to avoid germs while holed up in her Australian hotel rooms. "If you have to get sick, let it be in Australia," Dion said. That million-dollar voice of hers appeared match fit as she hit her trademark glass-shattering high note in All By Myself. Her fans had their patience rewarded with a long set that mixed her anthems (It's All Coming Back To Me Now, Because You Loved Me and, of course, the finale, My Heart Will Go On) with new songs, including Eyes on Me, penned by Delta Goodrem.

    CONCERT IN SHANGHAI

On April 11, 2008 Celine Dion performed in Shanghai, China, at the Shanghai Stadium. This concert also was part of "Taking Chances World Tour". Céline has presented to her enthusiastic Chinese fans an absolutely spectacular mega show accompanied by a visual feast of color, fashion, dance and surprises. One of the surprises of the evening included that Céline has thanked her fans properly in the national language for coming and greeted them quite fond. However, it was on that evening relatively cold, which led to that Céline has abandoned on costume change and was wearing only one outfit all evening long.

    CONCERT IN KUALA LUMPUR

On April 13, 2008 Celine Dion performed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at Stadium Merdeka. This concert also was part of "Taking Chances World Tour". Celine performed 22 songs, almost non-stop, as over 10,000 fans at Stadium Merdeka followed her every move, and tune. The show kicked off at 8.50pm with vignettes of Dion’s many music videos shown on two large screen placed at the sides of the stage. The singer got things going with the fast-paced I Drove All Night, followed by one of her smash hits, Power of Love. Dion then extended her apologies to Malaysians for postponing the show, which had initially been scheduled for April 8, saying that she had fallen ill while performing in Australia.“Thank you for being understanding and for giving me another chance to perform here tonight,” said Celine, as the audience cheered her on.

These concerts were the first after Celine last concert on past April 30, 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Of course thes concerts were part of the "Taking Chances World Tour", but for these new concerts in Europe were few changes, a new choreography, fabulous special effects and new clothes (as the fabolous sexy pink dress) and the scenary was on the center of the Arena. Celine performed the regular songs set list of the tour.

Both the fans and the Belgian press were itself united that Celine delivered a show of the superlative with skirt, Pop and very much feeling. The show was substantially shorter than the first concert in Antwerp, Belgium. Some changes were brought to the spectacle, apparament, two songs removed compared to the day before ("On Ne Change Pas" and "Tout L'Or des Hommes"), and the order of the songs interpreted was slightly altered.

This concert was the first show of 6 shows in Paris with "Taking Chances World Tour". It did not have alterations in the list of songs in relation to last the 2 concerts in Antwerp, Belgium. The criticisms to this concert were that there were no songs from the album "1 Fille & 4 Types" and just only one from "D´Elles". Jean-Pierre Raffarin (the ancier first minsitre of Quebec) was on the show.

    CONCERT IN DUBLIN
On May 30, 2008 Celine Dion performed at the “Croke Park” in Dublin, Ireland in front of about 64,000 people. This concert was part of “Taking Chances World Tour”. This concert has the special guest of Il Divo, but the group did not sang with Celine. Il Divo performed during one hour right, and then started Celine. Celine performed the regular tracklisting of the tour and the song “Shadow Of Love” (not performed on every concert). The stage was on a side of the arena, as the concerts in Asia and Africa, not on the center as the rest of shows in Europe on May, 2008. This concert was very criticized by the fans, who waited for changes in the songs and of course songs in duet with Il Divo. Around 150 gardai policed the concert with another 400 stewards on duty.

    CONCERT IN AMSTERDAM

On June 2, 2008 Celin Dion performed at the "Amsterdam Arena" in Amsterdam, Netherlands in front of about 51,000 people. This concert was part of “Taking Chances World Tour” and Celine performed the regular set list of the tour among "Fade Away" and "The Prayer" in duet with Andrea Bocelli via satellite. The introduction was different indeed, for this concert it was used world tour footage instead of career highlight. The stage was in the middle of the Arena again and had a couple of big screens surrounding the stage. The show was projected on those screens, so everybody could have a good view of Celine. In the middle of the stage were four screens that formed a block. Images were projected on those screens that gave the show extra flair. A very effective way to create extra dimension to the songs. Celine's last time in the Netherlands was nine years ago and the public was really happy that she was present again.

Her heart may go on, but it's lacking in passion

    By Declan Cashin
    Monday June 02 2008

What a week for Irish gal pals. Within days of the opening of the 'Sex and the City' movie, along came another pop culture juggernaut geared toward the female of the species.

For make no mistake about it: the ratio of females to males who turned out at Croke Park last Friday to see Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion must have been 15:1.

There were hordes of pink and white limos parked outside the venue, while the stands all blended into one bubblegum-coloured mesh of feather boas and pink cowboy hats.

Slick pop-opera princes, Il Divo, warmed up the crowd with a well-received set that established the tone for the extravaganza of cheese that was to follow soon after.

Dion arrived on stage just after 8.30pm, looking the best she has in years, clad in a short, tight pink dress.

She immediately dove into her cover of Roy Orbison's 'I Drove All Night', a lively opener that had the 64,000-strong crowd on their feet by the first chorus.

The backlog of Dion classic power ballads were all dug out to body-swaying, hand-waving approval -- 'The Power of Love', 'Think Twice', 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now' -- but it quickly became clear that there is something distinctly lacking in a Dion show.

That missing element is heart -- ironic considering the title of her biggest hit, 'My Heart Will Go On', which served as the closing number. Dion has an extraordinary voice that can hit notes like few others, but that concentration on her powerful chords comes at the expense of passion.

It also rankled that a huge proportion of the show was devoted to middling cover versions of Aretha Franklin, Queen, Tina Turner and James Brown. Surely she has enough of her own material to fill a show? Also, her attempts at dancing were unintentionally entertaining, while her interaction with the crowd between songs died a death.

Still, she got a huge cheer at the end, so her fans must have been pleased. But the Dion experience for me was summed up in a text message I got from a fellow concert-goer mid-way through. It read: 'Don't talk or dance Celine honey -- just sing'.

Actually, he didn't say that she didn't interact enough, he said 'her interaction died a death'. Which to me sounds perfectly in line with his closing statement about not talking, just singing. If you're going to tell Cashin to 'do his homework' then at least read the review properly.
It's a very balanced and fair review, I think, as he gives credit where it's due rather than just predictably bashing her for the sake of it.

Posted by Jim Severin | 03.06.08, 09:23 GMT

sadley this review is what I can only call crap. The review states that celine does not interact enough between songs, and then at the end a text is recieved saying celine dont talk just sing. er? stupid man......
Also Celine has been singing the Tina Turner song for years now, do your homework mate.

    Cuatro voces, cuatro pianos...

    Croke Park - Fan reviews

    02 JUN 2008
You went, you saw, you screamed! Fans gave Il Divo a rapturous response when they performed at Croke Park on Friday. The guys - who were the very special guests of Celine Dion - performed a string of classics and thrilled fans who haven't seen them on stage since last year.
Photos and reviews have been coming in to the forum thick and fast and we've picked some highlights from a few of the best fan reports...

'The sun was shining on Dublin because Il Divo were in town! Wow! To say that they excelled themselves is something of an understatement. Urs had smiled and blinky-winked his way through the entire performance (he was soooo happy!) but as the band played the opening bars of La Vida Sin Amor he signalled that he was ready to rock - wooohhooo - and then proud new papa Sebastien hit the last note to end all last notes. Perfect! Thanks for giving us so much fun again guys. The wait has been hard but it was great to see you back on stage where you belong!'
    By Moe D
'Their amazing powerful voices always blow me away and last night was no different. In addition to beautiful singing Il Divo also made me smile and laugh good few times. Carlos in his flirty character as always. Poor Sebastien managed to get himself out of trouble without any injury or embarrassment, but it was kind of cute and funny. Thanks a million, Il Divo, for the great performance!'
    By la diva
'It was just sheer pleasure to see our boys back on stage and I was smiling and shaking with excitement. They sang their well-known songs and what they did is they've put a slight touch of style in the way they sang which was great to hear - something different. All too soon their one hour show was up and had to say goodbye to us and just showed how much I missed them. Our boys did a super, great show and Three Cheers to Them!'

'The entire concert was fantastic! From the minute the guys stepped on stage it was obvious to see how happy they were to be performing once again! Sebastien was beaming, David and Urs were dancing and Carlos absolutely astonished the couple sitting next to me. They hadn't heard of the guys but were planning to buy the CDs as soon as possible. Of course I didn't mind helping them out with Divo trivia!'

'Their voices sounded absolutely fantastic, and the last high note from Seb in La Vida Sin Amor was amazing and sent shivers down my spine. Seb was just beaming all night and somehow he managed to nearly fall on stage as he leaned against his chair and slipped - much to the amusement of everyone else! Urs looked so happy finally being back on stage, we saw a bit more dancing from him than before. Carlos definitely made some new fans being his charming old self and David was funny and happy as always.'
